FunkyMates was established in 2005 shortly after our first son was born. I knew I wanted to start my own business & to scale down working my full time job which like most Mum’s takes us away from our families – or in my case out of the state. Then I suddenly had the idea of making Nappies... It didn’t take long to figure out a pattern — I used one of my Dad’s old bathrobes to have a few trial runs as at that stage I couldn’t sew!
I wanted to provide a low cost but high quality product which not only helped our family’s bottom line, the environment but also other families which chose the same option.Before too long other products started to develop along with our son, plus another addition to our family, another boy!
Our product range now consists of:
- FunkyMates Nappy Liners
- FunkyMates Baby Wipes
- FunkyMates Breast Pads both in Plain Terry Towelling, Hemp & Funky prints
- FunkyMates Nappies - Nappies that need Covers
- FunkyMates AIO (All in One) Nappies
- FunkyMates Bibs
Both types of Nappies are available in both Plain Terry Towelling & Funky Patterns. We also have our Nappies in variety of sizes Small, Medium, Large and Now Extra Large.
Speaking of sizes; the Extra Large is now available in the size 3 for those toddlers and older children that require them. This came about by some of our customers making a request for the size 3 which would give them an alternative rather than the costly exercise of disposable Pull Ups and bigger Nappies.
The existing pattern of the FunkyMates Nappies has been changed - this was an interesting process as well and they will have elastic in the legs. We have them avaliable now.
Each week we have wholesalers coming on board which is very exciting and we welcome them to our business. For those of you that don't know we now have Wholesale rates avaliable for other businesses and are looking at getting into the Markets in Brisbane or other parts of Australia - if you are interested just send us an email.
All of our products have been trailed and tested on both of my sons as well as myself and a group of girlfriends.
Another product of ours that has been growing which has been developed for the older person - AdultMates; They now come in 4 sizes - Small, Medium, Large & Extra Large. This product was inspired by a customer of ours who needed something to get him through the night and the request was granted. The AIO AdultMate in the Plan and Flannel is currently being tested as well as the larger Nappy Liner - stay tunned for updates.
Our brand is starting to spread like wildfire and thanks to our customers old and new FunkyMates has grown from strength to strength and we are here to stay. We have made sold over 3000 Nappies and I’ve lost count of how many Baby Wipes, Liners & Breast Pads. We would also like to extend a big thank you to all of our repeat and new customers.
We do have a limited supply of Plastic Pants for babies available. Unfortunately finding them for the AdultMates has proven to be a little bit more of a challenge!
We are also working on other FunkyMates products. If you need something made up let us know and we will give it a go.
Lay-bys are welcome, all you will need to do is contact us after placing an order - we are happy to have them over 8-12 weeks with a small deposit and a small payment each week/fortnight - we can discuss special terms if needed as we certainly understand how tight things can get with babies on the way plus toddlers in toe!
I enjoy what I do and it has helped us save a heap of money and we all know what that is like with a new Baby! I wish to help other Mums and Dads with the weekly budget and as an added bonus we are all helping the environment too!
